Q:  Why do I have to complete this course to receive my bankruptcy discharge?

The new Bankruptcy Act enacted by Congress requires individuals filing Chapter 7 or 13 bankruptcy to complete an instructional course in personal financial management AFTER filing bankruptcy and prior to receiving their bankruptcy discharge.  Our Bankruptcy Debtor Education Course meets this requirement.

Q:   Do you offer Pre-file Credit Counseling?

No, we only offer the pre-discharge personal financial management course (aka: debtor education). You will need to locate a different agency for the pre-file credit counseling course. Please be sure to bookmark/save our website for when you will need the pre-discharge personal financial management course once you have filed your bankruptcy and have your bankruptcy case number established.

Q:   When do I take this course?

You should take this course AFTER you file bankruptcy.  The law requires that you take this course within 45 days after your 341 Meeting.

Q:  How do I pass the course?

Simply by completing the course! As long as you complete the entire course, you will receive the Certificate of Completion required by the law.

Q:  How much does the course cost?

The cost for the course is $9.99 per household.

Q:  How will I pay for the course?

You or your attorney may pay online by debit card, credit card, e-check or money order.  If you choose to pay by money order, you will be sent your login and password after your money order is received.

Q:  Can my attorney pay for the course?

Yes. Your attorney may pay by debit or credit card.

Q:  How long is the course?

The bankruptcy laws require the course to be a minimum of two hours. Feel free to take as long as you need. However, you must spend a minimum of two hours in order to receive your certificate of completion.

Q:  When will I receive the certificate(s) of completion?

$10 Debtor Education, LLC has an obligation to provide a certificate promptly upon completion of instruction. Certificates of completion are issued within 1-3 business days after course completion.

Q:  Do you offer fee waivers?

Yes. $10 Debtor Education, LLC will waive all bankruptcy education fees for debtor students whose household income is 150% or less of the federal poverty guidelines as specified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (https://www.hhs.gov) for a household or family of the size that is the basis of the fee determination. Prior to taking the debtor education course, you can send your request by email to [email protected] or fax to 877-291-9448. Please include household income documentation so that we can evaluate your eligibility for the fee waiver

$10 Debtor Education, LLC will also waive the course fee if the US Bankruptcy Court waived the initial bankruptcy filing fees.  A copy of the fee waiver can be mailed, emailed, or faxed to our customer service and the fee will be waived. If the filing fee was not waived by the US Bankruptcy Court, a copy of Schedule “I” from the debtor’s bankruptcy schedules can be mailed, emailed, or faxed to our customer service. The fax is 877-291-9448 or email customerservice@10debtoreducation.

We will review all documentation and requests for fee waivers to determine if the debtor qualifies for a fee waiver. $10 Debtor Education, LLC uses the same qualifications for waiver of the course fee that a bankruptcy court would use for waiver of a bankruptcy filing fee pursuant to 28 USC 1930.  When a fee waiver is granted, a customer service representative will contact the debtor to provide the login and password to take the online debtor education course.

Q:  Where can I take the course?

You may take the course from any location with internet access such as your home, your office, your attorney’s office, a public library or an internet cafe.  The course is available to you at any time, 24 hours a day.

Q:  Once I’ve started the course, can I stop and start the course again at a later time?

Yes.  You can start, stop and save your course whenever you like and log in and out as many times as you need.  You can go at your own pace.

Q:  Who else can receive my certificate?

You will have the option of having a copy of your certificate emailed or mailed to your attorney.

Q: What do I do if the name, case number, or district are incorrect on my certificate?

We always recommend verifying your bankruptcy case number and district with your attorney/bankruptcy preparer, prior to registering for the course. We can always fix it at any time (preferably contact us at [email protected] or call us at 1-877-601-4141 before you complete the course and the certificate has been issued).  But if you do find an error, after the certificate has been issued, please contact us as soon as possible. Our staff will cancel the previous incorrect certificate, and reissue a new certificate with the proper information and resend it to your attorney, as well as make it available for download from your account. We recommend that you follow up with your attorney to explain the situation, as they may have already received the incorrect certificate, and you want to make sure that the incorrect certificate is not filed with the court.

Q: What is your payment & refund policy?

We charge your credit card on the same day you register and pay for our course.  If you registered and paid for our course in error, and need a refund, email us at [email protected].

Q: What is your privacy policy?

All information collected is kept private and secure. We do not sell your information to outside or third parties.
